Considerations

The primary responsibility for financing a student’s independent school education rests with their family. This takes precedence over Abiqua Academy's responsibility to provide Tuition Assistance. Tuition assistance is based on the total annual tuition cost for a student to attend Abiqua Academy and does not include other costs such as Before/After Care, meals, or other incidental expenses.

All applicants are required to apply every year. Abiqua attempts to fund students through graduation, subject to availability of tuition assistance funds and the family’s ability to demonstrate need annually.

In determining the family need, all parents, natural or adoptive, stepparents, guardians and non-married domestic partners are considered. Abiqua Academy considers the assets of both parents, natural or adoptive, if living, before making any award. Many divorce settlements stipulate the exact amount each parent must contribute toward educational costs, or which parent is responsible for expenses and for how long. Abiqua retains the right not to abide by such guidelines. No information is given by the school to either parent regarding the other parent’s finances. In view of this policy, it is necessary that both natural parents and their current spouses, when appropriate, complete a FA form.

The Process

Abiqua Academy uses FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment to determine the level of assistance each family needs to afford tuition. FACTS processes your financial aid application online and suggests an award to our Tuition Assistance Committee. There is a $40 fee for each family's application, payable directly to FACTS.

Priority

Priority for Tuition Assistance is given to returning students who are receiving assistance and have completed documentation by the application deadline. Due to the school’s varying resources and changing applicant pool, awards are granted on an annual basis and do not automatically roll over from one academic year to the next. Parents must complete the FACTS application each new school year. The second priority is given to applications from currently enrolled students who have not previously requested tuition assistance. The third priority is given to siblings of currently enrolled students. The final priority is given to students newly admitted to the school who meet the tuition assistance application deadlines and eligibility guidelines.

We value a diverse community and encourage families with any concerns about affording tuition to apply for Tuition Assistance. Abiqua Academy adheres to the highest standards of confidentiality and expects the same from Tuition Assistance recipients.

Tuition Assistance

Abiqua Academy is committed to a diverse community. We seek students who will thrive in our challenging academic environment, regardless of ability to pay. If the cost of tuition is a barrier, we suggest applying for Tuition Assistance. For the 2022-2023 school year, 20% of our families received assistance covering up to 50% of tuition.
