Covid-19 Information

Abiqua Academy appreciates your patience as we modify our Blueprint for Reopening to meet new guidelines from Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Department of Education. There is not a statewide answer for all schools. Our decisions will be made within the context of what is safe - not only for students, but our treasured resource of teachers and support staff - as well as the broader community. We acknowledge that we must be mindful of needs greater than what may suit our personal interests. We will act as a responsible community.

In order to open for in-person learning (hybrid or full-time) across all grade levels:

  • The state testing rate must remain at or below 5%.
  • Marion County must have 10 or fewer new cases per 100,000 residents over seven days.
  • The countywide test positivity rate must be 5% or less over that same time period.

You can review weekly state and county metrics here.

Exceptions to these guidelines may be made for PreK through Intermediates. We are gathering information and parent feedback to develop logistics for in-person learning that will safely meet our students’ educational and social needs. We plan to offer in-person orientation and transition sessions, if allowed, at each grade level.

Thank you for your support of our outstanding school community. We look forward to the successful launch of a new academic year starting Wednesday, September 2.

The spread of COVID-19 requires our community to demonstrate our very best qualities: to use good judgment in responding to changing circumstances, to prioritize the greater good of the community above personal preference or convenience, and to use HEART skills in all interactions, whether face-to-face or long-distance. Recommendations from Public Health Authorities are fluid; therefore, keeping up to date in our communication is vital. We have assembled the information we have shared within the community and provide it here:

  • A log of letters sent to our school families
  • Steps we are taking to prevent the spread of illness
  • Information from Public Health Authorities

Please be assured that Abiqua Administrators are closely monitoring the status of COVID-19. We will remain in frequent communication with families as we work through the complexities caused by the effects of the virus.

All Abiqua Academy teachers are committed to maintaining personal relationships with our students. PreK-12 instructors are preparing live and recorded lessons through our Griffin Flex Academy.
