Abiqua Parent Organization

APO helps connect parents to the school and within the community.

Ways to Get Involved

1. Bottle Drop

APO funds primarily come from Bottle Drop. You can pick up bags from the front desk.

2. Volunteering

Occasionally have sign ups for particular needs; these will be announced in the Griffin Weekly.

3. School Events

The attendance, coordination, and helping hands. These tasks will also be sent in the Griffin Weekly.

4. Coffee Time

Come enjoy coffee or tea before or after family time on Mondays. Located in the MPR just down the hall. A great way to meet parents and staff.

5. In The Classroom

You can also take time to help the teachers at Abiqua. Talk with your student's teacher for more information.

6. Attend a Meeting

Below is a list of meeting days for the year. Meeting details are sent via the Griffin Weekly.

Chair

Ida Lafky

Welcome to the community. I am Ida Lafky and proud to be your APO Chair this year 2022/23.

Our family has been at Abiqua Academy for nine years. Our son started the first year PreK was introduced, when it was just called Abiqua, and every year since has been wonderful. The implementation of H.E.A.R.T is the most impressive skill foundation we have ever seen. The education standards speak for themselves.

I work for my husband's law firm and for myself with a side business. I like to travel, be outside, eat good food, enjoy art, and hang with family.

Anything APO can do to help make this year be successful, let us know! Contact us here.

Vice Chair

Heather K. Newman

Hello fellow Griffins, I’m Heather Newman, Vice Chair of the APO.

I’m a stay at home mom with a couple of side businesses; a booth at The Fussy Duck, and shipping manager for a Disney adjacent LLC.

My daughter Glenna has attended Abiqua since Pre-K, and is currently in Ms. Young’s 4th grade class. My husband, Eric, and I hope that Glenna attends Abiqua through graduation.
We love Abiqua!

Secretary

Bijal Mehta

Hello, I am Bijal Mehta.

My husband and I both work at the Salem hospital. I have a daughter, Aanya in 5th grade. We have been with Abiqua since PreK. It has been a great experience, academically and socially.

Abiqua is a close knit community due to its involved parents and grandparents. APO is our way to help strengthen this community. We are here to help and support new and existing Abiqua parents.
